Screen Addiction seminar for parents aims to raise awareness and address the concerns of parents related to screen habits of youth like the excessive computer and mobile phone use with applicable guidelines and solutions. The following are some of the questions that will be addressed in the seminar:

 

·       Is there any difference between screen addiction and other addictions in terms of mechanism in our brain and hormonal system?

·       What kind of drives leading to screen addiction and what makes youth vulnerable towards them?

·       Do recent common emerging symptoms like social isolation, irritability and rage could be partially related to screen habits?

·       Does it affect childhood brain development permanently? What are the guidelines of children's screen habits by age group developed by nationwide authorities? 

·       What can I do as a parent?

 

* This seminar is specifically designed for parents and adults. The communication elements and arguments used are tailored for parents. Some of those elements could create a resistive and guarding attitude on youth. Please inform the families not to bring their children to the seminar. There is a youth version of the seminar "RECLAIMING FREEDOM AND BEING AN ACHIEVER IN THE AGE OF DISTRACTIONS" framed around the aspects of excessive screen use that youth would care about like freedom, sexual health, social consequences.

 

**Usually participants leave the seminar with an intention to take action on their home setting. In order to collectively take a smooth informed decision, It is highly advised to attend the seminar as couples.

2) Religious Identity Development of Muslim American Youth (90 mins with Q&A)

 

Religious identity development for Muslim American Youth is a seminar designed specifically for parents and community leaders in communities where Muslim population is minority. In the first part of the seminar,we will discuss sociological and psychological mechanisms of how the religious identity development mechanism work and why the youth here are more likely to have religious identity issues compared to those in origin countries. Then some practical guidelines for parents, community project design guidelines and examples from the life of Rasulullah's (pbuh) life about responsibility focused youth involvement will be presented.

 

  The seminar will address some of the following questions:

 

·       Why do the Muslim American youth may have an identity crisis?

·       How does the mechanism of establishing religiosity identity work?

·       Why do the parenting and religious identity methods worked in origin countries do not necessarily work in the US context?

·       What are some practical guidelines from social sciences and from the life of Rasulullah (pbuh) ?
